SUA is one of the founding members of the Pro Nutri-Score Alliance. It supports the introduction of nutrition labelling of products

Based on good cooperation with practice, which recently manifested itself in research into preferences and perceptions of nutritional information on product packaging for Kaufland, an initiative was developed to involve the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra in the emerging Pro Nutri-Score Alliance.

The initiative involved employees of the Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Agrobiology and Food Resources of the SUA in Nitra, who participated in the implementation of the said research. The first online meeting of this informal group, which took place on 18 February, resulted in the creation of a joint memorandum.

"The World Health Organization considers obesity to be an epidemic of the 21st century and one of the most serious chronic diseases," the memorandum said. "It is involved in the development of cancer, but also in the development of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus II and other serious diseases. Last but not least, there are significant direct and indirect costs associated with this, which place a significant burden on the health and social care system. Today, no one doubts that a healthy lifestyle plays a key role in maintaining public health and the well-being of society. For this reason, the provision of clear and comprehensible nutritional information on food packaging appears to be one of the most effective tools for promoting a healthy lifestyle. "

As further stated in the memorandum, dozens of studies carried out over the past period have clearly shown that the most effective and preferred nutrition and food labelling system in Europe is the Nutri-Score system. The scheme classifies products according to their nutritional profile into five color-coded categories and excels in clarity. At present, this designation is supported by most EU Member States with a view to its further extension throughout the EU. It is already used today in Belgium, Germany, France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and Portugal, or in other countries.

Therefore, non-profit organizations and associations, nutrition experts and recognized authorities in the field of obesity, medicine, representatives of academia, consumers and the private sector, food producers and retailers decided to create an informal grouping, the so-called For the Nutri-Score Alliance. The founding members are: Slovak Obesity Association, Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra, Slovak Society of General Practitioners, Consumer Protection Society: SOS, Slovak Vegan Society, Kaufland, Danone, Nestlé, Dr. Oetker, Alfabio, French-Slovak Chamber of Commerce.

Alliance members are committed to supporting the introduction of Nutri-Score nutrition labeling as an effective tool to promote healthy living and informed consumer choice, raising awareness of nutrition labeling and organizing an information campaign to raise awareness of Nutri-Score among the lay and professional public.
