As part of the celebrations, the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) presented its highest distinction, the Gold Medal of the University, to the ensemble's Artistic Director, Ondrej Debrecéni Jr. In recognition of his 34 years of dedicated service, he became one of the recipients of the university's highest honour. The City of Nitra also recognised the ensemble with a Certificate of Appreciation for its outstanding contribution to preserving and promoting Slovak folk traditions and for representing the city at home and abroad.
In her address, SUA Rector Klaudia Halászová highlighted that, since its establishment in 1956, the Zobor Folklore Ensemble has been an integral part of university life. She emphasised that the university's mission extends beyond education and research to supporting students' cultural and artistic development, with the ensemble serving as an inspiring example of how academic life and cultural heritage can enrich one another.
Founded at the former College of Agriculture in Nitra, the Zobor Folklore Ensemble has grown into one of Slovakia's leading university folklore groups. Over seven decades, it has represented the university, the city of Nitra, and Slovakia at festivals and cultural events across Europe, Asia, and North America, giving thousands of performances and earning numerous awards.
Today, the ensemble continues to preserve and promote Slovak folk culture while serving as a proud cultural ambassador of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra.
