During the on-site phase from April 20–24, 2026, students worked in multidisciplinary and international teams to create a sustainable tourism development strategy for the municipality of Topoľčianky. The program included lectures and interactive workshops, focus groups and interviews with local stakeholders, empirical field research, group work, and final presentations with specific recommendations for the local municipality.
After Monday’s opening and introductory program, an intensive schedule followed, centered around Topoľčianky as a real-world sustainable tourism destination.
Tuesday began with a focus group and a reflection, followed by parallel workshops focusing on regional development, tourism, and stakeholder cooperation. In the afternoon, we visited Topoľčianky Castle, enjoyed a guided tour, and had a discussion with the castle's management. The program continued with a walk through the village and a visit to Château Topoľčianky.
Wednesday was dedicated to meetings with key local stakeholders. Participants spoke with representatives of the Local Action Group Tribečsko, the Mayor of Topoľčianky, the Park Topoľčianky civic association, and the local business Medovníkovo. A visit to the National Stud Farm Topoľčianky was also included. The day culminated in joint teamwork and the processing of acquired knowledge.
Thursday was devoted to further exploring the region and its stakeholders. Participants visited the European Bison Reserve, conducted interviews with local entrepreneurs, and met with representatives of organizations active in tourism and regional development. The afternoon and early evening were dedicated to group work, during which participants developed their proposals for the sustainable development of the Topoľčianky destination.
Friday culminated in final presentations, where student teams presented their analyses, proposals, and recommendations based on the entire week of work, field research, and meetings with local stakeholders.
Following the presentations, the program was concluded with a joint visit to the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra and Nitra Castle, giving participants the opportunity to experience the university environment as well as the historical center of Nitra.
The FUTOUR Summer School thus provided not only professional knowledge but also an intensive experience in a real-world environment, emphasizing teamwork and bridging theory with practice. Thank you to everyone who was part of this week.
