SDG 1 – No Poverty End poverty in all its forms everywhere. |
Our Contribution to SDG 1
The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) supports efforts to reduce poverty and social disadvantage through access to higher education, financial and counselling services for students, applied research and cooperation supporting rural and regional development. As a public university, SUA recognises that financial difficulties can affect students' ability to enter, continue and successfully complete their studies.
The university also generates knowledge relevant to rural livelihoods, resilient agricultural businesses and inclusive regional economies. Its contribution to SDG 1 is principally educational, social and research-based rather than a direct poverty-alleviation programme.
Research and Innovation
Research at SUA explores rural development, agricultural economics, food value chains, regional disparities, entrepreneurship and the economic resilience of farming communities. These subjects contribute to understanding the factors influencing household livelihoods and economic opportunities, particularly in rural areas.
European research cooperation, including projects addressing farmers' position in food value chains and the sustainable development of rural regions, connects scientific analysis with practical policy questions. SUA researchers collaborate with external partners to examine how innovation, skills and cooperation can strengthen the economic prospects of agricultural producers and communities.
Education and Student Engagement
SUA provides degree education and opportunities for professional development that can improve graduates' employability and long-term economic prospects. Practical training, mobility, entrepreneurship-oriented activities and cooperation with employers help students prepare for the labour market.
The university provides information and support relating to social scholarships and other available financial assistance. These mechanisms can help eligible students continue their studies when they face financial constraints. Financial and social counselling offers additional assistance in identifying appropriate forms of support.
Public Engagement and Community Activities
SUA works with municipalities, agricultural enterprises, professional organisations and rural stakeholders through knowledge-transfer events, applied research and educational activities. This cooperation supports the dissemination of skills and information that can be used in rural development and local economic initiatives.
Public lectures, professional training and lifelong-learning opportunities also extend access to university expertise beyond enrolled students. Activities related to sustainable agriculture, entrepreneurship and local food systems may contribute indirectly to more resilient regional livelihoods.
Student Support and Institutional Practices
Financial-support arrangements at SUA are governed by the university's scholarship regulations and relevant national legislation. Student services provide information on eligibility and the procedures for applying for support. University counselling addresses social and financial concerns and can guide students towards appropriate assistance.
The university's diversity and inclusion framework also supports fair access and an environment in which students from different social backgrounds can participate in academic life. The precise number and value of scholarships awarded should be confirmed in the reporting records before being presented as annual achievements.
