SDG 5 – Gender Equality

SDG 5 – Gender Equality

Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.

Our Contribution to SDG 5

The Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra (SUA) promotes gender equality through institutional policies, education, research, staff and student support and measures intended to create a fair and inclusive academic environment. Equal treatment is an important principle in university employment, recruitment, education and participation in academic life.

SUA's Gender Equality Action Plan and diversity and inclusion framework establish priorities for addressing inequalities and improving institutional practices. These documents provide a policy basis for action; the impact of individual measures needs to be assessed through implementation and monitoring data.

Research and Innovation

SUA contributes to gender-related knowledge through research in social sciences, economics, rural development, education and the study of labour markets and agricultural communities. Gender perspectives can inform the analysis of access to resources, career opportunities, entrepreneurship and participation in rural economies.

International research cooperation and university equality initiatives encourage the inclusion of gender considerations in relevant research processes and institutional development. Specific research outputs addressing gender should be identified before claims about their number or impact are published.

Education and Student Engagement

The university supports equal opportunities for students in access to degree programmes, practical training, research and mobility. Its diversity and inclusion principles apply across academic activities and aim to prevent discrimination and exclusion.

Educational and awareness-raising initiatives can help students and staff recognise unequal treatment and understand the importance of respectful academic and working relationships. The university's support services also provide channels through which students can seek advice on difficulties affecting their studies.

Public Engagement and Community Activities

SUA participates in cooperation and public discussion addressing equal opportunities, social inclusion and institutional responsibility. Relevant activities may include educational events, knowledge exchange and collaboration with organisations concerned with equality and non-discrimination.

The university's gender equality and diversity policies are publicly available, allowing external stakeholders to review their objectives. Where public activities are presented as direct contributions to gender equality, the relevant event records and outcomes should be linked.

Gender Equality and Institutional Practices

The Gender Equality Action Plan 2022–2028 provides an institutional framework for measures addressing gender inequality and strengthening diversity. The Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2023–2026 complements this approach by setting principles for an inclusive environment.

SUA monitors selected employment indicators, including remuneration differences. Institutional monitoring for 2025 recorded an 8.3% gender pay gap calculated from average gross hourly earnings. This indicator should be interpreted together with its calculation method and should not be presented as proof that all forms of inequality have been eliminated.

The university's employment rules and collective agreement provide additional institutional context for equal treatment, working conditions and staff rights.
